Garage Sale The Sequel...Grrr
Or should I say brr?
Remember how I said those idiot forecastors predicted sun and high of 68 degrees? They must have meant another Saturday. Our garage sale Saturday was overcast and cold. Freezing cold. Frigid. Cold as ice willing to sacrifice.
We held it anyway.
So after "expenses" (breakfast and all that jazz because you still want to have fun with friends!), I made $15. Woohoo. I'm in the money.
After five hours of Siberian winds and very little money, I packed up, put my cranky self in my car, and went home. Not a single of the hundreds of CDs I took sold. Only one person had the courtesy to even glance at them. I thought the CDs would be bigger sellers.
And then there were things that I thought wouldn't sell and they did. Go figure.
I went home and took the longest, hottest shower known to mankind to thaw out body and spirit. Then I picked up my knitting. You know, I think knitting will be good for me. I can't practice piano or flute when frustrated. It doesn't exactly calm me. Too many emotions in the instruments. But knitting - each stitch removed a muscle knot. One by one by one. Mikey likes it!

I haven't knitted in a long time, but I used to love it.
Oh, and I finally got around to the meme. Thanks again! Here it is... Thought Spin
Heather...dang it, I'm sorry about your weekend. It sounds like the same experience I had, minus the Siberian winds (I made about $100 bucks).
But knitting...that sounds like a PRODUCTIVE way to relax. If you had played an instrument at that moment, it might just have sounded like me :/...NOT a good thing!
hmm sorry the sale didn't work out better. do ya'll have a city wide garage sell? We do... that is like massive traffice..ugh.. but good money;)
ohh and the reason i said do the entire yard.. is cause the just keep comming back year after year if you don't. (for the ants)
wolfbaby - do you remember what stuff you used for the ants? i do think we have a huge trellace of ant tunnels under our house! it would be good to see about getting rid of them.
no, there's not a city-wide garage sale, although some groups do kids sales - garage sales just for kids stuff. since i don't have kids, this doesn't so much help me.
I'm surprised the CDs didn't sell too.
I really enjoyed this post! I felt your pain about the cold, I shook my head in amazement at the lack of sales and interest on the CDs, and I smiled at the comment about music not calming but knitting doing the trick. So glad you've found this new occupation!
Congrats on the BIG income!
Anne with an "e". I love that!
I reiterate: I hate garage sales
I know people who routinely make a couple of hundred dollars several times a year at their sales. I've had two, and never came close. I also thought that CDs would sell, but they didn't. One guy, who I'm sure was going to resell them bought about 10 of them for $10 or something. . . (maybe less).
Okay, Heather, I tracked you down (From Relevant Blog--nothing scary!!!)because we've got to start a book exchange title! I also enjoy Anne Tyler, and I'm sure there are a dozen other titles I forgot to mention!
